if u partition ur harddrive well, formatting wont be a problem. i do a format every 2 months no matter what. u have no idea how much junk windows can produce. i keep my programs/games/datas in other partition. so no harm's done when i do a format. i dont even have to do back ups!!!
when i was working as the technitian, i will never tell my customer to format as well. coz it only means trouble to me
i'd have to go over and help them back up files...reinstall....and restore the backup files...and then they will went on saying "i used to have this great program..." or "i heard there is this great program...." -.-
