i wouldnt recommand Tojo, but thats just me... I think they are over priced for their food. Been to quite a lot of Jap restaurant, $1 /sushi kind and $4 per sushi kind... i think Tojo's price doesnt justify the food they are offering and the dining dishes and set they use.. i mean, for example, their soy sauce bottle, they use those cheap kind of bottles that you can see in so high class restaurants.. If I am paying such high price, then i'd expect something more high class..
However, Tojo food is pretty good still, just their price is too high. We can get same quality if not better food at quite lower price!
I been there with gf once, and never went again.. too expensive.... and didnt feel get our money worth.. Tojo has the kind of set dinner you looking for as well, and priced about the same price as Yoshii, and like many other Jap, they offer pretty much the same food with some of their own creativity and nice wines.. of course, no all-you-can-eat...
Tojo is located on Broadway street, just above the A&W burger.. not sure the exact address though.. and you are looking at about $40 per person to eat there if you want to get 80% full.. My gf, her mom and I went and we ate like $110+ and i was only like 70% full..
Shijo is another restaurant i would think of right off my head. Its on 4th street and. .umm. close to Burrard, 2nd floor. But their price is pretty high, but not as high as Tojo.
I think, the best Jap restaurant with highest quality per price ratio is Aki & Ajisai!! hehe~~ very fresh, and price is good! Robata is great too!!
PS. My gf and I are die hard Jap food fan!! hehe, we just love Jap food, and pretty much spend most of money on Jap food if we do go eat~
RSX: I know what you mean, dont think any of us spend $50 per meal every day or even every week...~~ but do go some real good quality of different types sometimes to see why the heck people pay this much to eat here.
