i know what you mean actually~~
a lot of those leather ones seem to be wider than our calves
then buy soft ones.. all my boots are soft tight ones~~~ 
right now there's a lot of pointy ones that's tight~
but too bad i dun really like too pointy ones..~~

they are always tight at my calves though..but loose at my anckle..
so i have these bunches at my anckle..looks so bad!!!
tried the soft tight ones..not good..too hard to get into them..:S
and plus i gatta find something that's not slipery at the bottom..
cuz i gatta buy shoes for winter...when it snows or something...
(that's the only way my mom would let me buy..=..=)
i dont like pointy ones either..@_@
