It really depends on the person too.

For examples, 3-4 chocolate bars have much more calories than 1/2 bowl of rice. But I gain a lot of weight and my stomach feels bloated when I eat 1/2 bow of rice; while my weight remain the same and my stomach doesn't feel a thing when I eat 3-4 chocolate bars.
yeah.. the body is very honest. The stuff you consume will reflect on your weight. Of course, what goes in, must come out. So the question now is, how much is left in the body and how much comes out. That should the "true" weight you consumed.

For me, my weight can vary 1~2 kg a day. Depending on what i eat and what i do. So i don't really pay that much attention to short term weight gain. It's just an indicator for me on what i might be doing right or wrong.
I did notice for weight increase, if you deal with it within in one week, it is very easy to shake off. Otherwise, I'll have to work much harder to get it down. I do no understand why, but it's just one thing, i noticed about my body.

The calories thing is just a guideline for people. It's not a bible. Weight loss is just a management issue to me. You manage yourself well enough, you will achieve your goal.
