when i'm working i only speak english
but that's only becuz i think being in canada
one must respect the english language
sometimes when people come in and the first word that comes out of their mouth is mandarin or cantonese
i get really offended
so i usually pretend i dun understand

Well.. for me, I'll reply in whatever language that is spoken to me. If there are more than one individual, i'll choose the most common language that can be understood by the crowd. Maybe repeat the same sentence again in another all other languages, so no one get left out.

like when korean ppl come
they would see that i'm asian and assume i speak korean

lol woow old thread! hahaha.. i'm bananna... i WANT to learn mandarin.. but a lot of the non cbc ppl just complain that my accent sux and to just stop trying... soo... i dunno.. if u want people like me who actually want to learn.. don't be so mean kk?

and by the way.. my family was really poor.. so they didn get to go to chinese school or anything.. and when they came here they moved to a small town to find work.. theres no asians here so we all just got used to speaking english...

it's not a choice (for me anyways) not to want to know chinese... the western culture was forced on me... soo i think some of u should cut cbc's some slack...

i know i know... but i mean.. when someone from overseas asks me to help them w/english i have no problem with that... i help a lot of my friends from taiwan and hk check essays and teach them new words... i don't tell them that their accent sux and to stop trying...

to be fair though... i don't reallylike the cbcs in vancouver (i'm not from vancouver.. i'm from a small town in alberta) i think the cbc's here are rude and try to hard to act cool and "gansta"

and i do understand that you guys think cbc's should try/speak chinese.. i think they do too.. which is why i try so hard to learn but man... when i'm out sometimes you guys sometimes use hidden meanings to make fun of cbc's ... like wtf... my friends always call me "frog at the bottom of the well" :P
