i don't understand why...
why do they "pretend" they don't know how to speak/listen chinese?
is it a disgrace for them to know the language of chinese? is it a disgrace for them to be even associated with chinese?
fuck..
you are born with black hair and yellow skin, and nothing can change them!

i agree with you it's annoying, same case when u go to montreal and french
people ONLY speak french to u(and u truly can't speak french)... however that being said...
ken,
take a sec and think a WHY they would speak english rather than chinese?
1. maybe they are more comfy with english rather than chinese?
- they feel their chinese level is not at the same level as the person they are
talking to, hence they feel their level of expressing their thoughts are not as good when they are speaking english would be a major factor.
- being in a western world where english is the official language, it's natrual
to speak english and they expect the person to know as well
2. i don't speak chinese to mainlanders off the top of a conversation.
- reason being, by speaking chinese, a bias will occure and this is almost
always true, when u are from diff side of the straite. taiwanese will say
"oh mainlander", mainlander will say "oh taiwanese"... etc etc..
now... if i m talking to u, u know i mix english and chinese... that's because
i know u can speak perfect english.... so i would mix it.. but i won't use 100%
english usage cause i know u speak mandrain as well... it really depends on other
people's perception of ur level of english also, so perhaps think of it as a
nice gesture that ur english is good :)
