2. Esso plays a leading role in sabotaging international attempts to fight climate change. It would rather sell more oil and gas than protect future generations.
3. Esso refuses to invest in clean, green energy such as wind and solar and instead spends all its money on dirty oil and gas. Even Shell and BP will invest $500 million each over the next three years in green energy projects.
4. Esso is the biggest oil and gas company in the world, and THE most profitable Fortune 500 company - US$15 billion in profits in 2001. If anyone can afford to help stop climate change, it's Esso.
5. Esso is the power behind the George W. Bush throne. They ranked 5th in 1999 for lobby expenditures (6 times more than Enron) and they contributed more to the Bush Republicans election effort than any other oil company - over US$1 million. It was money well spent. As soon as Bush became president, he pulled the United States out of the Kyoto Protocol on climate change - exactly what Esso wanted.
6. Esso makes Canada’s dirtiest gasoline with the highest sulphur content - which makes smog worse in our cities.
