I am sure we all have resented our parents at one time or another for restricting us to do certain things..
like having a bf/gf (not until certain age)
or not having sex before certain age (or marriage)
dont smoke, dont drink, dont go party
etc etc...
but of course, we all know sometime in their teenage lives they have done all those things..

my mom never really had any restrictions for me, except she wanted me to "save myself" i guess for someone special..
i think she wanted me to save it till i got married..
but i never did lisent to her..:laugh:

but when i think about it, if i ever have kids, would i be that kind of parent?
restricting my kids from doing anything that i think is "bad" or that i thought they are not ready for
i would like to think i would be an fairly openminded parent (if i were to become one)
i think i would allow my kids to make the choice for themselves, but of course i would want them to know the "correct ways" (i guess u can say) of going through with those choices (ie wear a condom if they were to have sex, etc etc)
but i suppose no one can really know until they are parents themselves..

anyways..my question is, when u think about it, what kind of parent would u be or become? put urself in ur mom or dad's shoes, honestly, how good of a kid do u think u are?

ill play sport with my son, and chat with my daughter.
when they are young ill diciplain them with stix, but once they are at a age to reason ill reason them.

i wonder what kinda of a parent i am gonna be
i've always been very much restricted
to be hoenst.. i used to HATE my parents for controlling me so much
but as i grow older.. i guess i learn to appreciate them more..

i would defintely try communicate with my kids more
from what i see
a lot of things is from "misunderstanding" and the "generation gap"
sometimes kids just need a sense of direction, a guide..
not someone to tell them "NONONO"

i think i am an ok kid, i think when i think my parents are reasonable i will lisent..
but sometimes cuz of the dynamics of society
things change, and sometimes their view point is no longer valid..
like my dad wants me to get married no matter what..
currently i am considering singlehood for the rest of my life...
he thinks i am being stupid and unreasonable..
but there's no reason for me to want to get married..
the society now accepts unwed women, and women can provide for her own..
10 yrs ago, an unwed women is an unwanted women..women often cant achieve anything but a minimin wage job..that's not ganna be enough...
so women need to get married (in a sense)

anyways..that's not my point...my point is i lisent when i think wut they are saying is "right" or fits with the times..
like with my degree, totally agree a degree is important...
eventhough it may not be much use, but it is still important
i dont however lisent to unreasonable wants..like the marriage stuff..

so..i think if i were my mom, i probablly be happy..
except the fact that it's taking me so freaking long to graduate..XD

well... the thing with acceptable doesn't mean it is necessary better for one's life.

so, ur parents must have their reason beyond just the TRADITIONAL. and we have to undertand traditional way is actually formulated through experince, so unreasonable it may sounds, there must a truth lie within.

i dont really like to be locked in a family setting too, but every time i watch "every body loves raymon", i thought a family can be fun and enjoyable too.
