maybe cuz they speak chinese? i dont know...=..="
but i think when he said chinese he meant 華人
which is 華裔..which isnt just chinese ppl~
|
but 華人 = 華裔. in english it's pretty much (華裔) a person of a chinese
descent.
so, if u have a kid here in canada, down the line, little "water jr the 3rd" that
was born here is still gona be of taiwanese origin in ur case.
many, hakka and chao zhou people moved to Malay, Thailand,
Indonesia and many other SEA nations in the early 1900 as
workers or some just move to find a better life (fisherman) and
since then they stayed there. some look just like local
malay's, thai's etc. but if u ask them, they will remember their
origins. another thing is, chinese people would never really be
mixed into their local culture. the chinese has always been an
outsider. (this case is most apparent in Indonesia remember those anti
chinese riots couple years ago?) that's why lee kwan yew rallied up
bunch of chinese people
and declared independence from malaysia to form singapore.
because mahathir wanted a malay malaysia rather than a malay+chinese
malaysia.
sorry for this little history lecture.
