最近小弟我剛買了一台有線 router, 覺得還不錯用。想知道這個板上有人也用router或wireless router嗎? 如果有, 請發表一下心得吧。

How come someone got caught with a router? Isn't it legel? It shouldn't be any problem if installed a router at home......

Router is legal ba. Or why they sell in stores like Future Shop, Office Depot, these big store?

I know a person that has 7 computers in their house. But they use a Server and split connection using Win2000's share internet feature to the other 6. This way the server acts like a firewall and the other 6 uses internal ips. I think that is basically how a router works.

Well I think there's a hole in Shaw Cable. After you pay the 9.99 for the 2nd IP, the IPs open up. Which means you can use as many IPs you want. I've tried it before, I just plug the connection to hub. I think I've tried like 5 computers which was the max for my hub. All of them got an individual ip.

I still don't get why router is illegal coz I'm thinking of getting one to make it act like a firewall.

Actually .... Router is not illegal !

I worked for Shaw last summer. It's almost impossible to get caught by using a router, unless when there's a connection problem in your LAN and you call Shaw tech support and tell them about it!

I am sure it's not illegal but Shaw don't want you to use it since Cable is shared bandwidth and the company have a node (if i don't remember wrong then that's what it called) for a certain number of IPs in a segment. If a node is capable of 100 IPs ... then the bandwidth is shared by 100 people (company point of view) but if you use router for every one of that 100 people ... that means a maximum of 255 * 100 people will be sharing the segment and the company will wonder why the node crash all the time!

So~ unless you tell Shaw or Telus that you are using router ... they won't know about it! :biglaugh:
