BMW recalls thousands of new 7-series cars over possible fuel pump, valve problems

MUNICH, Germany (AP) German carmaker BMW AG is recalling several thousand of its new luxury 7-series cars worldwide to check for potential fuel-pump and valve problems, a spokesman said Tuesday.

About 15,000 cars could be affected by the pump problem which ''may lead to the motor not getting enough fuel and the vehicle stalling,'' spokesman Alfred Broede said.

A valve defect may affect the motor performance of some 8,000 cars, he added.

BMW says it so far has delivered some 35,000 of the new 7-series autos.

Some cars may suffer from both defects and it wasn't immediately clear how many vehicles in total would be affected by the recall. BMW did not say where the cars were sold.

too bad~ this wouldn't help the new 7's image.

they have to though.. to protect their image.
just like miata did a while ago.. they offered to buy back their miatas because they misprinted the amount of HP.
but the thing that concerns me is that the new 7 has mixed reactions since the launch... some ppl just hate it, some love it... but this "error" won't do them any good. but they are brave to start something totally new.. good for them

Actually it demonstrates the problems are fairly severe. Typically manufacture won't recall unless it could be life threatening. Recalls give the company a bad image that is hard to fixed.

The Miata fiasco was different. Mazda had use the JDM MX-5 HP ratings. However the US version had stricter emission control so it lost a bit of HP there. Mazda North American operation didn't dyno the car again therefore didn't discover the problem.

true but to BMW it is very common ....my friend's X5 got recalled 3 times

so not really a big deal to Bimmer owners
