Advice on buying a used sports car

I am planning on buying an used sports car.
Are there advantages of buying from a dealer? I know the cons is that you have to pay taxes if you buy from dealer.

I want a car that's not going to break down or cost a lot to maintain.

Cars on my list:
300zx ( should I get Turbo or NA?)
240sx ( I dun wanna do engine swap though..so is it a good idea w/o Engine swap?)
ITR
Prelude
Celica
MR2 (turbo or NA?)

plz give me some advice guys
thz

depends on your budget, ITR is certainly a very nice factory tuned sports car. Lots of potential to upgrade and such. But you'll be looking to spend as much as 27-30k even for an used ITR at the dealerships since they are rare.

Preludes are nice too :) The 5th Gen Ludes are not a crazily fast car, but it gets you around. It's a nice cornering car, and nice exterior too! hehe~ As long as you get the MT Ludes, you'll have lots of fun with it. There are lots in the market now, some are fairly decent priced! $23k or so for a 99 or 2000 Prelude.

Celicas are not bad, it's a nice'n small car that is meant for just 2 passangers ONLY... the rear seats are a joke.. (sorry to Celica drivers..) they are almost useless... However, the gearings on the new celicas are not so cleaverly designed to accompany the engine's high revving nature..

300ZX, 240SX, and MR2s are pretty high mantinence cars... You need a Turbo on these cars else they are all pretty slow.. but then with turbo... the $$$ goes way up when you try to do a service on it...

just my 2 cent :)

ITR shouldn't depreciate that much, since it's a limited production car and it is rare to find.

Preludes are okay, they are all hovering around the 20k-25k mark at the moment. But if you are lucky and find yourself a Prelude SH, that should keep it's value more then the base or SS Preludes since they, too, are more rare to find. About 27k on the market right now for a 99 SH.

Celica dosn't have good resell value.. price dropped dramatically after 1 year..

ITR would be one of the more expensive in the list. However DC2-R has ceased production so it should retain value well.

em, ur price range is pretty wide for a car
from 30gs-9g
i'd take the 240sx, so u can thrash ur car during the two years
n it's fr, so much more fun than FF, even thou they are faster
i'd pick a car for fun factor over speed

300ZX TT & MR2 turbo kicks ass, power aside, they're RWD, very fun to drive. but u'll have to be really careful when buying them. sometimes non of them in the market is in good shape, in that case i'd be safer to wait for longer or just get another car. buying turbo cars aren't that scary as long as u do the work properly.
