I try using 94 octane on minivan and the acceleration was slightly improved compare to 87.

People running F/I or high C/R can benefit most from 94 octane.

actually there is an article in C&D not long ago about octane rating

they dyno a BMW M3 and a Honda Accord with regular and premium gas

BMW M3 well of course has better result when using premium gas, however Accord on the other hand actually got better acceleration, and stuff like that from regular gasoline

proving that high octane while might be good on cars that require it, probably isn't the case on cars that doesn't

It depends on weather the ECU is adaptive or not. Some ECU will adjust to run rich or lean and some don't respond.

aside from the ECU, you've also gotta consider the compression ratio~ if you take a look at the compression ratio in Azn market carz, you'll see why HK or TW has 98 octane gases~ the higher the compression ratio, the higher octance you need to prevent knocking

for example:

Proteges here have 9.3:1 C/R
but in TW, they have 11:1 C/R!!! (<- 11:1....that's into VTEC territory)

higher octane gases burn slower, so it doesn't induce knocking in hi C/R cars, where if you use low octance gas in high C/R engines, the gas will get ignited before the spark, causing knocking (esp. important in Turbo/Supercharged cars)

for high octane in low C/R engine....well...it doesn't really do anything...and you might even lose performance, cuz the gas isn't burning fast enough...=P

so there's really no point using hi octance gases if you have a low CR engine...it'll be just a waste of $$

just my $0.02

btw....I fill up at Petro Canada only (unless I run outtta fuel and there's no PetroCan for another 20kms)
I find PetroCan gives my car more mileage/gallon
and the engine also runs smoother with PetroCan's gas

same with Chevron (they give good mileage and runs smoother)...but I can collect Petro points at PetroCan~ hehe

In Japan they have low sulphur 103 Octane gas for people running 12.1:1 C/R

哇....真鳥...12.1:1 C/R oh....
without those special fuel...the pistons will get melted in no time

....so that means I cannot bring back a R-32 without lowering the compression ratio first then...sux...

My friend is running 12.1:1 C/R here on pump gas (94 Octane). He says no sign of knocking either.

true, very true, however most cars today on the road that require high octane can run on low octane gas without knocking because ECU is adoptive...but of course that is not recommended

g

what is a POS?

althought i don't machine wash my cars, but just curious~

and in Japan, the octane value starts at 97 ~~

i think cheveron got the cleanest fuel~~.
