If it's really for the 2003 market in North America, Japan should already have it in showrooms 3 months prior.
Honda is selling every S2000 it can build. It's in a class of its own. There's no need to steal the limelight away from Honda's own NSX. Plus, new Skyline and Toyota's new Supra will compete against the new Z. That makes 3 reincarnations of yesteryear sports cars still competing in the same class. With Mazda's plans for a possible new RX-7, why would Honda venture the NSX into an unknown market (supercar territory) when the battlefield is still unattended. The S2000 is not in the same market as these other sports cars.
Honda wants volume sales, not niche market targeting. They want $$$~ :)
