BMW beater?

November issue of Automobile magazine had a comparision test between 330Ci and G35 Coupe. Quite frankly I expected G35 Coupe to blow 330Ci away. I wonder where did the extra 55 hp and 56 lb-ft torque went to? Not to mention grippier tires and extra cog in the transmission. The 100 lbs weight difference shouldn't be this bad and it even hamper the performance one would expect from those massive brembo. The car is still attractive due to it's pricing compare to equally equipped bimmer but no doubt it will make people think twice if they really got a bimmer beater.

Here are the specs

G35 Coupe

0-60 mph in 6 seconds
0-100 mph in 15.1 seconds
1/4 mile 14.6 @ 98 mph
30-70 mph acceleration in 25 seconds
70-0 mph in 171 ft
Peak braking 1.06 g

330Ci

0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds
0-100 mph in 15.4 seconds
1/4 mile in 14.6 @ 98 mph
30-70 mph acceleration in 14.2 seconds
70-0 mph in 167 ft
Peak braking 1.08 g

Even if they are biased towards BMW the facts can't lie. Although it doesn't tell the whole story but G35 Coupe should have blown away 330Ci for good.

I never drive G35 Coupe nor 330Ci
BUT I did test drive both 330i and G35 Sedan
and the 330i feel much much stiffer and more controllable than G35 Sedan
Yes I agree that G35 accelerate fast in striaght line
but then you don't even feel the pull like 330i (not to say worse than my A4 3.0 which is kinda radiculous)
The suspension and shocks are soft and when i hard corner them it has quite a lot of body roll
also you fell so weird in the G35 it feels very very light
and it seems that it wants to fall apart (My feeling)
also the use of interior material like the typical Japanese car

But one thing i have to say is the Navigation in G35 ROCKS
clear and big screen
3D animations
nice woman voice
and the price is GREAT~
Well if the money is not a factor I'm still think 330i is the best performance/handling in the same class

I test drove the G35 Sedan too and I found the RPM rises too fast for such a low redline engine. I was consitently hitting the fuel cutoff at 6800 rpm. Judging by my butt feeling the car had it's strongest torque curve between 3000-5000 rpm. I was hoping the fact it's a bimmer beater can make me forget how ugly the rear end of the coupe looks. The bumper and trunk just don't match the lines found on rest of the car. Have to start researching again.

Sometimes you've gotta take in how the gear ratio is setup, cause that'll effect the performance as well.
Also, how about the weight distribution? BMW is doing a damn good job at their weight distributions on their cars. I don't know about the weight distribution of Nissan's cars.

mm maybe im biased but look at the facts
even tho the G 35 coupe is heavier it still has better weight/hp ratio than 330ci. yet, it only has a similiar performance as 330ci. whats up with that.

Although I don't have the exact gear ratio # but I can see from the chart automobile provide that the 6 speed G35 Coupe have closer gear ratio than the 5 speed 330Ci.

G35 Coupe is 52/48 and BMW is 50/50 and both are RWD.

G35 Coupe has the perfect 45 aspect ratio tires too.
