another problem i am having w/ my car. ('97 318i, ~83 000 km)

engine will slowly die in "p" and "n" mode. unless i hit gas and rev the engine. but i can always start up again if it dies.

engine will wanna die in "d" mode. while driving, the engine may wanna sleep... steppin on gas peddle sometimes will not work... unless i REALLY STEP IT.. it'll wake up again.

the car only has this problem when the engine is in normal temperature. so when the car is cold, it will not have this problem.

i just changed the battery of the car.

i just switched to synthetic oil mobil 1 (~1000 km ago).

this problem will always occur when i have the car running on "automatic". if i go to "manu-matic" and keep the car on 4th gear, the situation will improve; engine won't fall asleep as much; but still happens on occation.

so what kinda problem do i have? engine? transmission? gearbox?? anyone who has driven e36s haf had/heard of this kinda problem before too? my warranty haf expired....

you might want to check your distributor cap and rotor
spark plugs too

dont ask me whats that in chinese cuz i dunno

distributor's chinese is 分火器

hmmmm, my friend's old 318is had this kinda problem before too.....when his car is not moving.....the car couldn't idle...he has to gas it to make it keep it running.......

at the end.....his mechanic found out it's the oxygen sensor 壞了

perhaps you bring it to mechanic to check check that loh

i think u should take ur car back to 原廠
maybe u just need to have ur idle speed adjusted
