I think ppl does that to gain more HP...just like lots of ppl upgrade their twin turbos in their FDs to single turbo....
correct me if i am wrong.. |
single turbo don't give more hp.... it all comes down to volumetic flow rate of the turbo(not the "turbo efficiency" which depend on drivetrain

), in another word size(and design) really matters. the idea of having 2 turbins instead of one is to use 2 smaller turbins that has a combined volumetric flow rate of a bigger turbin but the two smaller turbin would spool up faster than the bigger one.
the most common reason people conver TT to single turbo is for the cheap horse power. if u would look up the price u would notice how much more expensive a twinturbo kit is than a single turbo kit. that's a reason why 300zx TT is less popular than other twinturbo sportscars since 300ZX doesn't have such an option(technically u could do the conversion but that require major re-piping which is not worth it). so u can see that it's the drag(straight-line) racers(drivers) who are more interested in the conversion. i asked the owner of ATEB the same question and he addressed another reason.... the twinturbo system were prone to mechanical problems, therefore a lot of people conver to single turbo to save the hassle.
