I dun think the insight and Pirus were ever created to be big profit makers for Honda and Toyota..

hybird cars market are gona grow bigger and bigger in the future, and isn't there a law that all automakers should have a hybird vehicle by some year?

I think it's a good start for Honda and Toyota because they have created for themselves, the first generation of hybirds in their company. Althought the cost is not cheap, but I dun think it was ever ment to be a popular selling car like the Civics or Corolla..

There is, however, a small market out there that calls for the hybird vehicles. and I think these hybird vehicles is fufilling the needs of the people in this small market very nicely for the time being

well said guys, I think USA and Canada both have an obligation to cut their emission rates by certain percentage since they signed the Kyoto agreement.. and Bush.. (don't really want to get into politics here, but hell... he is American) is in energy business before he became President.. so you know how much oil he wants!!!


Yeah, I also discussed this topic with a GM car plant superintendent guy before... like Zeta said.. hybrid is going to be the bridge between ICE and FC vehicles... and I didn't know Insight is made in aluminum! that's so cool.. I am sure the desity of batteries will be much greater due to the study of Nano Technology so in the future, hybrid will do even better... I think up to 2010 bah.. FC won't come out until that time since the infrastructure of fueling system is not out yet..

Toyota and Honda have two different type of Hybrid system.


Toyota rely on electric motor to get the car moving. Gasoline engine is use as an supplmentary power. If you commute a lot of city driving this is the best.


Honda rely on gasoline engine to move the car. Electric motor which is the supplmentary power is use to provide instant torque aiding accerleration. Electric motor fades away as the revolution climbs.

yes I think you are right (I really forgot which one is which), just a reverse of technology though~


I think both Prius and Civic Hybrid are still in testing phase and they are sold to Government most of time for short commutes...

that's for sure, but in the maintime what's more difficult is to reduce the charging time...which i don't know if there's any improvement on that

They can use ultracapacitor which is more costly but can charge and discharge faster than conventional battery pack. They are also working towards reducing battery pack size and weight. In the insight it took out the whole trunk floor in civic hybrid they were able to stuck it behind the rear seats.
