Engine rebuilt for Volvo V40

Just got quoted from the shop. $3700CDN for the whole job. Thats include a set of JE forged Pistons, new rings, Port and polish intake and exhaust manifold, 3 angle valve job, new bearings, polish the head and labour.
The shop will take out the engine from the car and rebuilt the whole thing.
How's that sounds? Should I go for it?

Sounds alright for the price... and considering it's not like a Japanese car with go-fast parts everywhere... As long as they have a good reputation... even if it is a bit expensive, at least it's work that is done properly the first time...

I thought u drove a S40T??

Well after engine rebuilt, the engine will be very strong and can withstand the among of boost we are having right now without a problem.

My turn:
Since I'm not in a hurry at all and I'm not as affluent as Kadon I'm going to DIY:

all the useful parts in boxes separated in small bags

AE86 without an engine head....so sad.
.
But when this thing is done it'll sport a 10.5:1 (up from OE 9.4:1) compression, hot cams, valve springs, total seal piston rings and cam gears. Target horsepower is 150-160HP. After taking apart the engine I find out that AE86 can ALMOST be recognized as Front-MR because the center of weight of the engine is only within an inch in front of the front track line (definition of front MR is that the engine's center of weight locates at or after the front track line) that probably is the best explanation to why AE86 handles so well with such shitty suspension design.

how u change it to hicomp? gasket or hicomp piston?

btw why don't u just do a swap instead of doing so much on this engine which already blown up?

that's what I'm wondering too, but I guess you can learn more by rebuilding it...
