You can go to rent a cheap hundai accent, and practise in the parking lot of a park.

zeta, thanks for the clarification.
:spin:
Hey man... I got a manual about beginning of this year and I encountered the same problem as you did, not knowing how to drive manual. But I just got someone to take it home for me from the dealership, and from then on, i just take that car out to practice. I tell you, at the time when my friend told me after 2 weeks it will be just fine, I didn't believe them... but actualy... after 2 weeks, it shouldn't be a problem...

As you probably know, main thing is getting the car going on 1st gear... the rest of the upshifting is easy. My recommendation is, if you are not very familiar with the friction point of the clutch, add a little more gas. I think it is more dangerous (and looks bad) to stall, especialy on an uphill, than to slip that clutch a little. And like someone else already said, it won't be damaged that much (trust me... after you get the hang of the clutch, and when you start having fun with it like doing rocket starts ie. reving enging and popping clutch, you won't think about hurting the clutch) So add a little more gas, let go of clutch slowly, and it should be fine.

Even the learning process is fun! Just use your own car... I mean its your new toy right??? I'd say take it out on a back street, and just park it, and just practice start stop start stop... see if you can get the hang of the friction point and not stall it. After that, you can take it out on the road! As long as the car is moving, you shouldn't have any probs.

Sniff Sniff... burning clutch... :) Quite easily done on a Subbie.. especially with the added strain with the 4WD system.

I knew how to drive a manual ages ago but never had a car to drive full time.. it's only been maybe 3 months now in my Liberty and u get better as each day goes by. Still waiting for a car change now............ clocking up too many k's.

by "reading" how to drive manual won't get u far...
98% of how to learn is just trial and error... u know this would make ur car stall, then
don't do that :)

keep on driving and u'll get it...

Werd!!!!.....

In addition......

don't push urself to drive the car for too long at once. Since newbie manual driving style usually hurts the car a bit more.

at nite, drive around in roads that's usually empty so you aren't pressured by other road users, and then drive a little bit, and digest what you have done right and done wrong.

learn new techniques progressively, and try very very hard on how u manage the coordination between using the clutch and shifter so you don't build up bad habits.

ok~
so... i jus bought a 600 manual car and now i am learning uphill starting..

but i have a little question on cornering~
whats the most "CORRECT" way to turn?
now what i do is
1)step on the brake,
2)step on clutch,
3)and then after cornering,i change the gear to 1 gear lower
4)then i let go the clutch slowly
5)step on gas.
the question is can i skip number (3) ??
and... is it a correct way of turning??
plz help a newbie~ i have no other ppl to ask becus none of my fd drives a manual... and..my parents, who know how to, are not in canada~~
THANK YOU FOR READIN!!!!!!

actually, this is not a right way to turn man :nono:

you don't wanna step on the clutch while you are turning. Coz this means the car is rolling through the corner by the inertia and this is no good.

before u enter a turn, you should had already downshifted( for example, from 3 to 2nd gear)

so when you are turning your car is already in a lower gear(2nd gear), after u done with turning then you give some gas the car will go

but no worries :unstable: , practice will make u good :good:
