Not a big fan of Honda, and I don't hate it all that much either. Nevertheless, I found a statement when I was reading Adams' "Chasis Engineering" which i thought was pretty sarcastic and funny:

Honda has quit using strut-type front suspension on its production cars for the same reasons. They apparently feel that it is worth the increased cost to equip their cars with the superior double A-arm type of suspension.
(Adams, P.41) :biglaugh:

eason Honda was the first car company to mass produce variable valve timing engines. It is without doubt one of the better technology that make engine more driveable and efficient.
Not to troll or anything but variable valve timing was actually designed by Mitsubishi motors for their 4 cylinder diesels in the early 80's to make them more fuel efficient in the city the "low cam" has low lift for a smaller intake charge thus less exaust, less noise but also less power so the gave it a high cam as well pour on the throttle and the "high cam" comes into play a big fat charge of air for all the power you need and once your up the hill or around the slower vehicle back on the low cam. I don't claim to be an expert on the Mitsu system since i was 3 when it came out. but i do know it was a mechanical operation.

Mitsubishi took much too long to come out with MIVEC if they had in the diesel since the 80's.

No harm intended but neither Honda or Mitsubishi was the first to come up with variable valve timing concept. Toyota has been working on twin VVTI since the 80's. They stole the idea from Lotus in an engineering exchange. Alfa Romeo was also developing that idea way back then. What Honda did was simplify the design so it can be cheaply mass produce. They also change the DNA of the engine by giving it wild cams for performance cars and mild cams for economy cars etc. Ever since Honda produce the first VTEC engine the mechnical operation has never failed once.

i dont know much abt cars..
but i'd pick honda over anyother jap car anytime...
i drive an accord now, and yeah there are problems here and there...
but it's holding up pretty well for a 3 yr old

other jap cars we have owned:
mazda MVP
- battery died 3 times...the 3rd time was very close to the 2nd time..(like a week?)
- 1st time, we left the car light on for 1 nite (i did that with my accord and the battery didnt die)
- eats up too much gas

nissan quest
- no major problems but only had it for abt a yr...

i have to say though..honda is too light..it shakes too much when i go on highspeed (like aroudn 130~140)
but accord is better than civic, civic shakes when i go on 90~100..=..="
