Okie seriously, you parents have been in the society for many years. They should know 文憑 is just a piece of paper. It doesn't determine who a person is. Chinese always have the weird concept of 文憑 = good. In america, it's whoever can job done is the man/woman.
There are tons of unemployed ppl in taiwan with Masters and Ph.d . You tell me what their 文憑 have done for them recently. There are so many universities and colleges in taiwan that they expect 110% of the students attending post secondary education will get a 文憑. That's some quality students we are producing there. Is 文憑 really a valid way for an employer to judge an employee?
I don't deny education is important, but is it a fair indication of a person's character? I help a dog and next time i see the dog, it will be very friendly to me. I help a guy with ph.d. The next time i see him, he stabs me in the back. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know the right/wrong. The question is can you do the right thing.
Learning is life time process. Completing your education is only the start of the learning process. You will be learning and learning and learning until you die.
Have you consider the possibility that the parents just simply doesn't like the bf/gf. They are just going to find any flaws that person has and bash him/her until he/she runs away. Better find out what the REAL reason for the dislike.
Anyway, don't blame your parents. They only want the best for you. Think about how you would feel if you were in their position. Also ask them how they would feel if they were in your position. Communicating is the best way to solve problem. Just think before you talk, it demonstrates your maturaty and seriousness.
