i think this topic reminds me back in gr.6 or 7.

every guy at the time "pretends" to be strong. i remember every guy wore like a t-shirt when it was snowing. we never used umbrellas when it was raining because people would call you a wimp. and nobody dared to say the word "cold" even it was crazy cold outside. i remember we were playing "snow football" outside with t-shirt and shorts.

then guess what?
i went home sick. i think i was sick at least 10 times a year during those "pretending to be cool" days.

so it makes me wonder what are girls thinking when they wear mini-skirt to ubc in winter time, when they know they have to walk outside a lot. do they want to pretend they're strong? i don't think girls would do that. do they just want to look pretty? maybe yes, but how is that different from me trying to be cool when i was like 12 years old? i personally think that's just weird and kind of immature.

i don't think wearing shorts will impress girls.

i think it's just a guy thing. maybe ur school didn't have as much white people as our school coz u are in richmond. our schools are probably like 90% white, and white 13 yr old guys do some weird things....
and i was stupid enough to think what they did were cool....

I dun think you should call that weird and immature. After all, they could be just like what Yao and Aku said. Wearing what they feel like wearing

Acutally, you know, I remember in elementry in TW, a classmate of my was a Japanese/Taiwanese mix. She told us that Girls in JP still wear skirts to school in winter even if it snows. I remember we were like :O won't you feel cold???

she just said that legs don't really get affected by the coldness.. as long as you dress warm and keep your feet and hands and body warm, you'll be alright.

So maybe those girls really don't feel the cold. Besides, when they wear short skirts, don't they usually have knee high boots on? So I guess they're alright.. since it's really just a small part of their legs that are showing. :)

it's just a normal human reaction....

it's like....
it's 30 degrees outside...yet u r wearing a big coat and scarf for no reasons? i'll think the person is trying to be cool or something. i bet most people would think the same.

then you have people wearing mini-skirts and short-sleeves while it's 5 degrees outside. a normal human's reaction would go "what's wrong with this person?"

the girl i saw was wearing a short mini-skirt. she was shivering. i was wearing a big coat and still shivering. i've been to canada for almost 20 years, and i believe i'm not that afraid of the cold. if i see someone like that, i bet every normal human's reaction will go "what's wrong with the girl? isn't she cold? is she trying to impress guys or something?"

maybe her hivering motion you saw was acutally her giggling at you for wearing a big coat

no but seriously, I think different people have different senstivity to cold.. when I was 15... 0 degree and freezing rain didn't feel cold at all... but now.. even 5 degree and rain is making me shivering and almost unbareable..

we're not girls.. no.. I should say.. we're not them.. so we don't really know how they fell.. we can only speculate

it's purely subjective like many topics we talk about

maybe 20 years down the road, most girls won't be sacrificing their "health" for the "looks". i bet most girls around our mom's age won't do things like that.

it's just like me 10 years before. i thought wearing little shows i'm strong and not afraid of the cold. 10 years down the road, i just think those stunts i did were immature and stupid.

i still know a few white guys who "influenced" me to be cool like them when i was young. now, all of them wear big jackets when it's just 10 degrees outside. all of them carry umbrellas when it's raining. all of they say the word "cold" when it's really cold. for guys, those "pretending" to be cool days are over.

i'm sure there are still lots of things we do now we find legit and reasonable. but 10 years down the road, i'm sure many of the stuffs we do now are unreasonable and immature.
