another approach you can take is to make advising appointment directly with ubc commerce. you DO NOT have to be a ubc or commerce student to do that.

http://www.sauder.ubc.ca/bcom/contact_us/index.cfm

hope this information helps. :)

Is the email address you told me right? Is it bcomquestions@sauder.ubc.ca?
I have sent a email to them two days before, but they still haven't give me a reply.
Are they very busy?I want to transfer to UBC in 2006 Summer.Does Commerce accept students in Summer?I want to enter UBC commerce for the second ,third ,and forth year study,if my transferable credits is more than 30credits and less than 60 credits,is that OK?

this is weird because i just sent them an email asking for graduation requirement on tuesday. they replied me on wednesday morning. maybe you should send them another email. they usually reply emails really quick.

i don't think commerce accepts any students in summer.

commerce only accept 2nd and 3rd year transfer students, so transferring as a 4th will not work. furthermore, colleges do offer al the required 3rd year courses from ubc.

you can transfer with 30-60 credits. the main thing they look at is what required courses you have completed. if you completed all the first year requirements, you will get accepted as a 2nd year student, and vice versa for 3rd. you really need to plan your courses carefully because if you are a 2nd year student at ubc, ubc usually doesn't let you take any 3rd year courses even you have fulfilled the prerequisites. (the main reason is 2nd year register later than 3rd year, so 3rd year courses get filled up.)

again, i think you should contact them directly. maybe you can make an appointment with an advisor and ask him/her directly. :)

I think I can't transfer to ubc for third and forth year studying .Instead,I can only transfer to ubc for second ,third, and forth year studying. After I checked BC transfer guide ,I found that Commerce 290 ,291 ,295,297 are not transferable with courses in my college.Commer 292,293,294 are transferable between my college and UBC.In this case, I can't fulfill the second year requirement for entering the third year commerce studying. You told me that I should plan my courses carefully. This term is my first semester in Kwantlen college,I have choosen Math 1140(equal to Math104 at UBC),Econ1150(Econ101 at UBC),Physics 1100,and Japanese1100.Is that reasonable? Please give some suggestios.Someone told me that first-year English is very difficult,is that true.I plan to study English 1100(equal to English112 at UBC)this Summer.I think you must have stuied first-year English before you entered UBC.Do you think it is difficult?Today,I completed my third LPI test.Because in Kwantlen, I nee LPI with 30 to study English 1100.(My second LPI score is 26)

Sorry, I forgot asking another question.I check BC transfer guide, I was confused by following saying: Kwantlen MRKT 1199= UBC COMM 2nd (3), exempt 396.What does" exempt 396" mean?

kwantlen does not offer all the required courses to ubc. that's why i stayed at kwantlen for only 4 terms, and i took the other required courses elsewhere.

about if the courses you are taking are reasonable or not, i don't really know how to comment. i think it depends on several things, such as your planned graduation date and goals.

i really don't think english is that hard if you work hard. if you did poorly on 1st yr english, i suggest you to transfer as a 3rd yr since ubc only evaluates your 2nd yr core commerce courses and latest 30 credits when you transfer as a 3rd yr.

exempt is just a fancy word for ubc to say that the transferred course is not exactly the same as the ubc course, but you will still receive credit for the ubc course. thus, it basically means mrkt 1199 = ubc comm 396.

i will give you a breakdown of the courses i took at college.

Fall 2002 (Kwantlen)
1. CPSC 1103 (UBC CPSC 3 credit)
2. MATH 1140 (UBC MATH 104)
3. HIST 1113 (UBC HIST 135)

Spring 2003 (Kwantlen)
1. ECON 1250 (UBC ECON 102)
2. MATH 1240 (UBC MATH 105)
3. ENGL 1110 (UBC ENGL 3 credits)

Summer 2003 (Kwantlen)
1. ECON 1150 (UBC ECON 101)
2. CBSY 2205 (UBC COMM 391)
3. BUSN 1215 (UBC COMM 292)
4. ACCT 2293 (UBC COMM 293)
5. ENGL 1100 (UBC ENGL 112)

Fall 2003 (Kwantlen)
1. ECON 2210 (UBC ECON 345)
2. ACCT 3320 (UBC COMM 294)
3. HIST 1114 (UBC HIST 135)
4. PHIL 1150 (UBC PHIL 120)
5. MRKT 1199 (UBC COMM 396)

Spring 2004 (Columbia)
1. BUSN 291 (UBC COMM 291)
2. BUSN 297 (UBC COMM 297)
3. ECON 207 (UBC COMM 295)

Summer 2004 (Langara & Columbia)
1. BUSN 290 (UBC COMM 290) (Columbia)
2. MATH 2362 (UBC MATH 221) (Langara)
3. MATH 2371 (UBC MATH 200) (Langara)
4. MATH 2382 (UBC MATH 152) (Langara)

in the end, i had 68 credits before transferring. hope this will help you. :)

One of my classmate's friends transfered to UBC last September. She entered UBC with TOFEL and no more than 27 credits as a first-year student. Will that be smoothly transfered to Commerce at UBC? Someone suggest me that I should enter other faculties or general studies at UBC, then declare the program. Is that difficult?
