BA degree offered by Kwantlen

hmm...does anyone know about the BA degree that's offered by Kwantlen starting year 2005?...

I'm studying at UBC, second yr science. I screwed up pretty bad during my first year. So...hmm...I wanna start everything over again. Unfortunately, UBC Arts is probably not gonna accept my transfer (My GPA is way too low..they want me to meet the competitive average..). I passed all of my first year courses with really low grades. It's unlikely that my GPA can be bumped up enough for me do the internal transfer.

I'm thinking of getting into the BA program that Kwantlen has. It sounds really dumb. And I know that no one in his/her right mind would drop out of UBC and apply for Kwantlen. I really need some kind of advice now. Can someone help me out?

first of all, why you want to transfer to arts? is there a specific major in arts you want to major?

FYI, i did really bad in my first year at UBC too. i also dropped out of UBC by myself and applied for KUC. then i found my true interest to be Finance, so i took some transfer courses at KUC and transferred back to UBC.

Yes, I want to major in Psyc. I would really want to stay in UBC. But I don't think it's possible.

You know...I failed almost every one of the core courses that are required to advance to 2nd year in Science. I screwed up. I further screwed it up, by retaking those courses and barely passing them.

I am gonna be like..20 this december. I just really don't know if I still have the luxury of time to start at college and transfer into UBC again.

After 2 years of torture, I don't really know what I am interested anymore. I really..really want to start over.
Do you have any advice?

And..here I am, in my second year, majoring Biology, really doubtful that a BSci is gonna support me when I grad. Personally, I don't think a person with a BSci can do anything without going to Graduate School.

I have completely lost any confidence in myself during my years at UBC.

i don't know if it helps..
my bro was in engineering 1st and 2nd yr half way...
he didn't exactly fail anything.. but his average wasn't really high.. (since engineering average ain't high anyways)
but half way through he just couldn't take it anymore..
so.. he dropped out.. for half a yr...
then... he came back into arts.. not sure it was a transfer or not @.@
but he went to doc and stuff... and say he couldn't take the pressure and maybe he used the depression crap to withdraw from all his courses....

and he had no problem coming back....

but anyways~
i think the way to find out about anything is too call an advisor at the arts faculty.. tell him/her ur situation and mention the stress part.. and see what he/she would suggest you to do ~
i think that's the best way..

my bro also end up majoring in psych.... (but not just cuz it's an easy major and bunch of losers end up ther XD... oops.. might have offended a lot of ppl...) and he actually did extremely well!! like i'd say after he transferred he got nothing less than B+ ~ i think his average for what he studied after he came back.. is a solid A~
probably not A+ but not A -~

so~~ good luck~~

yea, psych is ez to get in, but if u wanna stay on the top u gotta really work it... it is not THAT easy~~ if u are not an art person, it would be hard for them to study it~~ some ppl can do really well in business and stuff, but totally suck in psyc so~~

i agree with yao and bala.

i am good with finance/math. i do well in these courses, so i constantly beat the average by a large margin in these courses.

however, i am bad with pure arts courses, such as history. the best i can probably do is get an average grade for those courses.

so once you figured out your true interests and talent, you will start doing well in your classes and gain back your confidence.

Thanks for all the feed back guys.

I haven't really decided what field I wanna do. Perhaps I should explore alittle bit in college. Definitely not at UBC. I should probably tell them that I did really bad because of my parents' divorce. Although I think it doesn't do me any good to excuse myself by blaming everything on my parents, but for the sake of my future, I guess I have to do it.

Im gonna go talk to science advisor, and see what I can do to clear my records. Thanks for CK's advice.

about bala's opinion on psyc major....
After all these years being tortured by UBC...I really don't know what major is easier to do good..so that you stand out!...

Marketing/Finance/Enconomics, very competitive
BioChem, very demanding workload...

Everything in university is competitive. (I force myself to think that way, so that I will work really hard.) I think it's the best to find what I'm good at. Set a goal and work for it!

I would just stay in UBC, re-evaluate myself, set my goals and excute it. I understand that the transition from high school to university is not easy, but you need to try to adapt to it. First and second years are the basics. It's pretty much a set material. If you can't do well in UBC, I do not see how other places shall differ.

As for the field you are in, i agree it's important. But a more important thing is managing your life. You might not be studying the hottest subject, but if you have done enough planning for the future and following it. You won't starve to death.
